Kurinji or Neelakurinji

Neelakurinji (Strobilanthes kunthianus) is a shrub that is found in the sholaforests of the Western Ghats in South IndiaNilgiri Hills, which literally means the blue mountains, got their name from the purplish blue flowers of Neelakurinji that blossoms only once in 12 years.

Kurniji is the famous flower which makes the Neelgiri hills blue. Kurinji is a bright blue bell-shaped flower found on the hill slopes of the Western Ghats at an altitude between 6000 to 7000 feet
